Supporting multilingual learners is not about adding more to a teacher’s plate. It is about making intentional instructional decisions that help every student access, engage in, and succeed with rigorous, grade-level learning.

In this interactive one-hour professional learning session, Cheryl Abla will share practical strategies educators can use to strengthen engagement, academic language, and meaningful participation for multilingual learners across all content areas.

Participants will explore ways to:

• Make grade-level learning more accessible without lowering expectations
• Increase student talk, collaboration, and academic language
• Move beyond accommodations to active engagement and deeper learning
• Use simple instructional strategies that can be implemented immediately

The session will include opportunities for reflection, small-group breakout discussions, and idea sharing with other educators. Participants will process their learning, consider how the strategies connect to their own classrooms or schools, and identify practical next steps.

Participants will leave with classroom-ready ideas, useful resources, and a clearer understanding of how small instructional moves can make a meaningful difference for multilingual learners.

A certificate validating one hour of professional development credit will be provided.
